building an ark and other madness in march

I realize that I have only been updating this blog with the Learn Something posts. Such a bad little blogger. But, I've got a good excuse. Erm, let me just think of it...

I actually really like doing the Learn Something posts because they are in list form. I love lists. I can hit all the high points and just move right along without getting too caught up on boring schmoring details or anything. Makes me sound like a super fun person to be around. I'll try not to write this post in list form but...

  • it
  • is
  • so
  • hard.
So, what has been/is going on? Rain. It's been going on awhile. I don't mind the dreariness and overcastness, but the rain? No really, go away. I'm not singing Rain, Rain, Go Away for kicks and giggles. I really want you to leave. My annoyance with the rain is the cold weather it has brought along for us to enjoy. I know, I know. I have lived in Georgia my whole life and should be completely used to the indecisiveness of our Mother Nature. Being used to it doesn't mean I like it. Outfit of choice yesterday: Long sleeve Christmas t-shirt, Georgia Tech sweatshirt, fleece jacket, wool socks. Outfit of choice exactly one week ago: Any sleeveless shirt, shorts. Say what? So, I'm building an ark. It will have heated flooring. Come join me.
Buddy sits and mourns the rain.

Now, let's move on to the most important question/topic of conversation these days. THOSE teams  made the Final Four?! My knowledge of basketball is about as vast as the amount of sun shining down this week, but because of a bet (that I will win) I have had no choice but to follow. I was really pulling for BYU just because uh, it's BYU, duh. That didn't work out so well. Now I'm really pulling for Butler because uh, I have some friends at Butler so I feel like there is a special connection there, of course. Either way, there is a whole lotta madness up in here. Get ready for this weekend.

I think that covers most of the bases. Rain and basketball. There's not much else going on in the Nan other than sitting on babies which is

  • all
  • I
  • do.
But they are so cute so I'm good sitting on them for a little while longer.

BRB. Gotta go get my ark building on.

I came, I saw, I learned something

  • Two-a-days and three-a-days have a whole new meaning. Most people think of it as practices or rehearsals, but to me it means how many families I can babysit in a 24 hour period. Welcome to my week.
  • I can survive a full-crazy-three-a-days day on 3.5/4 hours of sleep.
  • You can make a homemade taser out of a disposable camera. And when I say "you", I really do mean you because I tried it and failed. I don't go around making homemade tasers, that's Sam.
  • I just run so much better when JBiebs is serenading me.
  • Ann likes a turkey-ham-american-provolone-mayo-basil sandwich. Just not when I make it.
  • I cannot control life. I know that is crazy and you all are shocked to learn that I do not sit in a big control tower in outer space. But, I don't and weeks like this when I am juggling lotsa kiddos and important decisions about my near future are looming around, I wish I did sit up in a big control tower in the sky. Sigh.
  • The Farmer's Market is superior to everything. Not even only grocery stores, but everything
  • Everyone in the South should invest in yellow cars so for the 6ish weeks that the pollen is terrible the cars won't look so nasty. It'd be so worth it. My car is all kinds of disgusting right now. Time for some rain dances?
My car is oozing pollen out of every pore

Also, as you can tell I'm kind of obsessed with videos of babies laughing. What can I say... But seriously, if watching those doesn't automatically cheer you up then you are a rare breed, my friend. Now, time to go get yer March Madness on.

what's wrong with my socks? they match my underwear. a.k.a.--learn something

It's Friday/yepIlearnedsomegoodshtuffthisweek-day. Yay! Here is some of my new knowledge:

  • Nap time in the sun is the best. Warms you to the bone.
  • As obvious from my previous post, Scoutmob is a beautiful thing. And all you beautiful people should use it.
  • March Madness is aptly named.
  • If you want St. Patrick's Day decorations, you need to shop before St. Patrick's Day.
  • St John's mascot looks like an evil Elmo.
  • The Avett Brothers should be on repeat on my iPod. All. The. Time. Sing to me, bros.
  • And for some seriousness, I need to stop complaining about the small things, erm, all the time.
  • Baby G drinks more water a day than I do. (Baby G is 1 1/2). Amelia always answers with "Yes, m'am."--high five for manners. Seiler can beat me at almost every card game. Righton can meet and promptly become bff's with just about any kid at the park. Francie prefers playing with Ziploc bags to dolls. Nicholas thinks my lap is the only place to sit and it's cute. Bella loooves pot stickers and Little Miss Kindergartner Carina Li broke up with her bf because he had bad breath. And didn't tell him. For serious. Brush them teethies, guys. We've got some heart breakers out here. Basically, to sum up this point, kids are the greatest. Let's be more like them.
Time for some more learning. Go, go, go. And maybe watch some basketball, you know, if you're into that.

a love letter to scoutmob

Dearest Scoutmob,

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love that I wake up every morning to a new steals and deals e-mail.
How are you so faithful? I cannot tell.
I love thee exclusively, Groupon ain't got no chance.
I love thee wholly, you make me want to dance.
I love the food that I get in my belly,
No more will I have to eat at cheap delis.
I love thee with a love that seems to grow
More everyday. -- I love thee with all my heart
As it beats and patters. -- and if you love me so,
I will use your deals until the day I depart.

Sum up of this post: My wonderful-movie worthy-best night ever Friday night in ATL is all thanks to Scoutmob. Ruth (my partner in winning) and I took over the city, one Scoutmob at a time. This takeover could potentially become a monthly (weekly? daily?) occurrence. Will keep y'all posted.

i am learning all the time

A long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away) I was the ultimate Facebook stalker. Oh, I'm sorry are you laughing at me? Laugh all you want, but I know (knew) everything about you so watch. out. Since joining the blogging world I have been attempting to transfer my CIA secret missions to stalking different blogs. This has resulted in me just finding some really awesome blogs that I can follow and enjoy.

Just ask my mom. I'm always telling her the latest things that my friends have posted. "Emily! There are not your friends! You don't even know them!" Psh, chyeah right Mooooooom. They are so like my bbffs--best blogging friends forever.

Anyways, one of the blogs I have found is Crowley Party. Check it out. Follow it. Love it. Crowley Party is starting a new series called Learn Something. Every Friday we make a list of things that we have learned during the past week. Considering I spend 22/7 with kids and 2/7 watching Arrested Development, I am learning so so so much. (For instance, did you know there is always money in the banana stand? And that Jake and the Never Land Pirates comes on at 8am? [This particular piece of information is very important. I'm not joking--watch it.])

ANYWAYS, lessons learned this week:

  • Jake and the Never Land Pirates comes on at 8 am.
  • Never give Russ Moore hard candy because you will most likely go deaf from his loud chewing.
  • If it was 70 degrees and sunny yesterday then it will be 40 degrees and windy today. (Being a Georgia girl, I learned this lesson 21 years ago; however, I always get annual friendly reminders).
  • A can of Pringles should always be a short reach away.
  • There is no point in getting frustrated with my what is or is not happening in my life right now. Guess what? Did you know that life will go on anyways? We'll all float on ok.
  • Cupcakes are so last year. It's all about the self-serve frozen yogurt (with 50+ toppings) nowadays. Canyasay YUMMY?
  • Whale sharks are completely harmless even though they are the largest living fish species. A shark is less likely to attack a human if he/she is in an inflatable bag (because we all carry those with those in our beach bags...). The shark isn't interested in it since it cannot see any limbs. (Thanks to 4 year old Nicholas for being obsessed with sharks, I have read and watched more things about sharks in the past 4 weeks than I have in my entire life).
  • How to knit. Yes, I learned to knit (taught by the fab MC--remember the one who said my blog friends weren't my friends?). And while I start with 30 stitches and end up with 35, or I pull the yarn so tight I can't get another stitch in, I know how to knit and that is all that matters. Next up: how to sew.
  • Charlie Sheen in a winner.

End scene. Now, go out and get some learning done this weekend.

charles has a licking problem

You know what has been on my mind lately?

COWLICKS

Weird? Let me explain...

The other day I was just driving around belting out The Cave at the top of my lungs (the usual), when I got real annoyed with my hair falling in my face. Now, for those of you who don't know my tragic story, I got bangs several months ago which turned out to be like the worst decision of my life. I'm not even being dramatic, I'm being Serious Suzy. Good news: they're growing out. Bad news: they are in my eyes and face 24/7. Anyways, why were bangs the worst decision of my life? Because I have a cowlick. There I said it. On the day I was born, the cows were super bored so they wandered over to Piedmont Hospital looking for something to do. What happens when cows are bored and at hospitals? They find newborns and lick their heads. All the cows in Georgia came to lick my head that morning.

Other than the obvs creepiness of this pic, notice my covered left eye. THANKS cowlick.

I feel like I need to go to Cowlicks Anonymous or something for the grief and anxiety that my cowlick has caused and will continue causing me. I mean, I did live my first three years of life with a big ole hair horn sticking outta my head because of my cowlick.

(Where were we?)

Yes, so I started thinking about cowlicks? Whaaaa is the purpose of cowlicks? What is the meaning of cowlicks? Why do we get cowlicks? (and yes, I mean get them just like you would get the flu or something). I immediately searched for the answers to my enormously important questions. Here is all Wikipedia had to say:

A cowlick is a section of hair that stands straight up or lies at an angle at odds with the style in which the rest of an individual's hair is worn.

Basically, all I got from that was, "Blahblahblah cowlicks stink and are odd." That's what you got too, right?

I did find out that some people go to the extreme of having plastic surgery to get rid of a cowlick. Errrm, no thanks. I think I'll keep it for now. I mean, sometimes I feel pretty special that all the cows chose MY head of hair on which to slap their tongues.

p.s.- If anyone has the answers to my questions, please enlighten me.

p.p.s- What does the title have to do with anything? Well, check this out. (maybe that's what licked me...)
